In 2021 the Haarlem Branch of the Dickens Fellowship will celebrate its 65th anniversary. It has already hosted four Annual Conferences in the past, and has now risen to the challenge of hosting the 114th. This Conference will explore themes that are emblematic for Dutch culture, history and climate.
The venue will be Hotel Haarlem, near the historic city centre of Haarlem. It can be easily reached by public transport from Schiphol Airport or Amsterdam Central Station and has free parking space for guests. Hotel Haarlem is a modern hotel with comfortable rooms and meeting rooms.
The program will include: lectures, the AGM, entertainment, excursions, the banquet and Evensong. Speakers will include members of the Haarlem Branch and scientists in the field of meteorological and maritime history.
Since March 2020 the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the planning of our meetings; national and international. For the 2021 Annual Conference in Haarlem we may still have to contend with restrictions and government regulations; such as, for example, social distancing in lecture rooms, limited numbers of persons gathered, etc. But let’s hope not. In the event of social distancing being still in place we will have to limit the numbers of participants. That means, under the current regulations of 1,5 meter or 5 foot social distance, only 60 people can attend. If that happens we will look at the sequence of registration.
The price for attending is, without accomodation, 600 euro. A 100 euro per person non refundable deposit should be paid by December 31st and the balance by March 31st 2021. Anyone who has to cancel and who has paid more than 100 euro will get the balance returned provided that we are informed before March 31st. After that it may be too late to cancel with the hotel and other suppliers.
The costs for the additional day is 60 euro, busfares and lunch included.
